The Crook County Fair Board presented the 3rd Annual Peoples Choice Awards to Sandra Howe of Prineville and Shirley Demaris of Redmond during the 2010 Fair.
The People’s Choice Award, created by the Fair Board in 2008, allows the general public the opportunity to participate with exhibitors by voting for their favorite exhibits in two pre-chosen categories each year. This year, Demaris won in the Sheep category for her eight (8) Black & White Romney Sheep, and Howe “took the cake” in the Baked Goods division with her mandarin filled Farmer and Tractor fondant cake.
In her first year entering exhibits into the Baked Goods category, Howe designed her exhibit with the 2010 Fair Theme, “Makin Tracks To The Fair”, in mind. “I was very surprised to have won, there were some very clever entries this year”, said Howe.
Demaris has been a long time exhibitor at the Crook County Fair. “All the exhibits were really nice this year Demaris said. The judging was also great.”
Since winning exhibits are chosen by fair goers through secret ballot, and exhibitor information remains anonymous, this award is particularly rewarding to receive.
Both exhibitors have been added to the People’s Choice Award Plaque located at the fairgrounds in the Cary Foster Hall.
“Crook County’s fair has a nice down-home country feel to it said Demaris. I look forward to coming back next year.”
The 2011 Crook County Fair is scheduled for August 10th through 13th.
