WHO?
Any resident of Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson or Wheeler Counties may enter in Open Class competition in Departments N through W, Livestock Departments A Thru K are open to exhibitors from the Northwest. Any others interested contact the fair management. 4-H and FFA members must fill those requirements before Open Class. Some departments have separate classes for professionals but your displays are always welcome.
WHAT?
Livestock, Poultry, Rabbits, Land Products, Houseplants, Flowers, Canning, Baked Goods, Confections, Needlework, Clothing, Photography, Hobbies, Crafts and Art.
HOW?
Bring exhibits in according to schedule for the department you are entering. Each person must register and they will be given an exhibitor number and entry tags.
Age Catigories are Youth - 17 years and under, Adult - 18 to 54, Senior 55 years or over. Fill out the entry tag for each item you enter. Fold the tag to conceal your name and attach it to your exhibit. Take your exhibit to the proper department and it will be placed for you. Ask anyone working at the Fair for help or information. We will be glad to assist.
EXHIBITOR NUMBER
Exhibit numbers will be assigned when exhibit is entered into the computer. If you exhibited in years past, you will already have an assigned exhibitor number.

This Specimen is “Organic”
The Land Products (Dept. N); Floral (Dept. P), and House Plants (Dept. O) exhibits will be in the Floral Building in 2008. There is an effort underway to have a space on the entry ticket that will indicate if the specimen was raised in the classification of ORGANIC. This will allow the public to determine if the “Organic” specimens are an improvement over those not so classified.
Organic agriculture is growing and caring for plants in our yards without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. To have the classification of “Organic” in the U. S. all agricultural farms and products claiming to be organic must be guaranteed by a USDA-approved independent agency and meet certain guidelines. These guidelines will not be required to enter plant materials into the Crook County Fair this year. However, it will be up to the person entering to abide by the principles of organic guidelines that follow:
- Abstain from the application of prohibited materials (including synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and sewage sludge).
- Prohibit the use of genetically modified organisms and irradiation.
- Employ positive soil building, conservation and manure management and crop rotation practices.

Payment of Open Class Premiums
Premiums of $50 or more will require some form of ID. If you are not able to pick up your premium money in person, you may have a family member or friend do it for you. That person will need to have signed permission to do so.
Open Class Premiums will be paid on Saturday, August 8, 2009, from 10 AM to 2 PM only in the Fair grounds office.
Open Class premiums not picked up during the fair will be paid at the Fair grounds office beginning Monday, August 17 through Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 9 AM until 4 PM.
All Premiums not picked up by Thursday, August 20, 2009 will be returned to the Fair. Thank you for your contribution.
Exhibits can be picked up Sunday, August 9 from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Carey Foster Hall & the Floral Building.
